How to Get from Guilin to Yangshuo: Train, Bus, Cruise & Taxi
“Yangshuo Station is not in Yangshuo.”
That line deserves to sit on its own. It has burned a lot of travelers.
You book a train in Guilin, you spot “Yangshuo” on the ticket, and you assume you’ll step off right onto West Street. Instead, the doors open onto empty karst countryside. You’re standing in Xingping Town — 35 km and a one-hour shuttle ride from Yangshuo town itself.
Guilin to Yangshuo is about 88 km by road. For such a short stretch, there are four ways to travel from Guilin to Yangshuo — from 30 minutes to over four hours, and from 22 to 450 CNY (about 3 to 64 USD). Pick the wrong way and you don’t just lose a few yuan. You lose a whole day.
Here are the four options for the Guilin to Yangshuo trip, with real times, real prices, and the catches nobody mentions.

How to Get from Guilin to Yangshuo
Getting to Yangshuo is easy once you know the transfer trick. Here’s how to get from Guilin to Yangshuo, step by step.
By High-Speed Train — fastest, but mind the Xingping catch
Three Guilin stations serve the Guilin train station to Yangshuo route, and they are not equal.
- Guilin Station — downtown, closest to the main hotels near Elephant Trunk Hill. The smartest pick.
- Guilin North Station — the most departures, but a 30-minute ride from the center (bus 100 goes into town).
- Guilin West Station — far out, mainly passing high-speed trains on the Guiyang–Guangzhou line. Skip it.
On the Yangshuo side, there’s one stop: Yangshuo Railway Station. The catch — it sits in Xingping Town, not Yangshuo town. West Street is still 35 km away. Book your ticket on 12306 or Trip.com, and know that Yangshuo Station is a high-speed rail stop only.
Three ways onward from the station:
- Official shuttle bus (Yangshuo HSR Line 1): 20 CNY per person, 50–60 minutes, to Fengming Visitor Center or Yangshuo Bus Station, then walk or taxi to West Street.
- Taxi or Didi: 80–100 CNY per car (up to 120 CNY late at night or on holidays), 35–45 minutes.
- Straight to Xingping old town: a short local bus, 5 CNY per person, 15 minutes to the Xingping entrance. For the 20 RMB note viewpoint (Huangbu Reflection), walk about 20 minutes from the old town or take a local golf cart.
The train leg itself is 30–40 minutes. Add 40–50 minutes of transfer, and the Guilin to Yangshuo train totals 1.5–2 hours. For most people, the Guilin train station to Yangshuo journey is the fastest door-to-scenery option in Guilin. By Direct Bus — cheapest, drops you near West Street
Buses leave from Guilin South Bus Station, Qintan Bus Station, Guilin Station, and Guilin North Station. It’s the cheapest Guilin to Yangshuo option: 25–50 CNY per person, 1.5–2 hours depending on traffic, straight to Yangshuo Bus Station or near West Street. The downside is holiday traffic.
Want to go cheaper still? Two newer shuttle lines now run the Guilin to Yangshuo route: a Didi “station bus” (about 29.9 CNY) and a Junda custom shuttle (promo fares from 9.9 CNY). Book them in the Didi app or the “Guilin Junda Passenger” WeChat account. On a tight budget, they’re a solid stand-in for the regular bus — just don’t count on the promo price in peak season.
By Taxi or Private Car — door to door
A taxi or private car from Guilin to Yangshuo takes the G65 Baomao Expressway and runs 1–1.5 hours. A regular taxi is 200–250 CNY; a Didi or private car is 300–350 CNY. Split three or four ways, and it stops feeling expensive — and it’s the most comfortable with big luggage.
By Li River Cruise — turn the ride into a sightseeing trip
The Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo runs 4–4.5 hours and costs 215–450 CNY per person (3-star boats 215–265 CNY with a boxed lunch; 4-star boats 360–450 CNY with a buffet). 4-star boats board at Zhujiang Pier, 3-star at Mopanshan Pier — both finish at Longtoushan Pier in Yangshuo. There’s just one morning departure a day (9:00–9:30), and the boat is one-way.

Which Way Should You Choose?
Still deciding? Here’s how to pick between the Guilin to Yangshuo options.
- Short on time, light luggage — take the high-speed train, but count the Xingping transfer into your total.
- Tight budget, heavy bags — take the direct bus. Cheap, no luggage juggling.
- Family, big bags, or 3–4 people — take a taxi or private car. Door to door, cheap per person.
- First trip, want transport plus scenery in one — take the Li River cruise. Four hours drifting past the 20 RMB view.
If you have a flight or train to catch the same day, skip the cruise. It’s the slowest option, and it’s one-way. Once you arrive, start planning with our list of things to do in Yangshuo.
5 Mistakes to Avoid on the Guilin to Yangshuo Run
Mistake 1: Thinking “Yangshuo Station” is in Yangshuo.
It’s in Xingping Town, 35 km from the town center. Travelers step off into empty countryside, then waste time bargaining for a ride or standing in a long shuttle queue. A local saying nails it: “Yangshuo Railway Station and Yangshuo share only a name.” Remember — the “Yangshuo” on your ticket is not West Street.
Mistake 2: Rushing to grab a taxi at the airport.
Guilin Liangjiang Airport runs a direct bus to Yangshuo — 50 CNY per person (about 7 USD; some platforms list 60–70 CNY), about 90 minutes. Departures are limited, though, with the last bus around 20:00. Land late and there’s no direct bus; either head into Guilin city for the night or book a Didi/private car (250–350 CNY). A rideshare runs about 70–80 CNY plus a 29 CNY highway toll — cheaper split between a few people. And remember: you can go from Guilin airport straight to Yangshuo without getting stuck in Guilin city first.

Mistake 3: The cruise is one-way — and the pier touts know it.
From Longtoushan Pier it’s about a 1.5 km walk to the main road, and touts will offer you a “ride” at wild prices (50 CNY for one kilometer). Ignore them. Walk to the official golf-cart pickup (a fixed 15 CNY) or call a Didi. Staying in Yangshuo? The golf cart or a 15–20 minute walk gets you to West Street. Heading back to Guilin the same day? Bus (25–35 CNY, about 1.5 hours) or train.
Mistake 4: Trusting the “cheap one-day tour” touts at stations.
Book rafts and cruises through the official mini-programs, with your ID. Scalper tickets won’t get you aboard. And Guilin has no subway — don’t plan around one.
Mistake 5: Ignoring weather and holiday traffic.
Check the navigation notice before you leave. If boats are suspended, you get a no-fee refund and can switch to a big boat or a land viewpoint. Also, the Yangshuo–Xingping stretch can take three hours in holiday traffic — leave a real buffer if you have a train or flight to catch. Plan your dates with our guide to the best time to visit Guilin.
Before you go:
- Book train tickets early, and aim for Guilin Station.
- Book cruise tickets 3–5 days ahead in peak season, with real-name booking.
- Check the weather and navigation notices.
- At the airport, check the shuttle schedule before hailing a taxi; land late, book a car in advance.
